Job Summary:

As a Content Writer with UX/UI expertise, you will simplify and rewrite complex web content to create clear, user-centered pages that enhance usability and accessibility. You will work closely with design systems to assemble content into standardized templates, ensuring information is easy to find, understand, and act upon.

Responsibilities:

• Rewrite and consolidate web pages into clear, concise plain language.
• Apply a consistent tone of voice and create navigation copy, page headings, microcopy, calls-to-action, and long-form informational content.
• Transform dense, technical source content into user-centered pages organized around user needs and tasks.
• Assess existing content and make retain, edit, or consolidate decisions, tracked in a content workbook.
• Assemble and lay out rewritten content within design-system templates and components (page authoring).
• Structure pages for usability and findability using clear heading hierarchy, link text, lists, tables, and callouts.
• Apply UX-writing best practices informed by research methods such as card sorts, tree tests, and usability testing.
• Produce content that meets accessibility standards, including meaningful link text, alt text, logical heading order, and accessible tables.
• Perform content quality checks during and after migration and apply post-launch content fixes.
• Support subject-matter experts and content leads through office hours and guidance sessions, creating reusable resources from recurring questions.
• Collaborate with UX, design, and delivery teams within an Agile sprint cadence to deliver review-ready work on schedule.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent related experience.
• Several years of experience in content writing, content testing, and content governance.
• Hands-on experience with tone-and-voice style guides, microcopy, and long-form technical documentation in plain language.
• Portfolio demonstrating plain-language writing with before/after rewrites preferred.
• Experience collaborating with editors, writers, project managers, and subject-matter experts to publish digital content.
• Working knowledge of Drupal, WordPress, and assembling pages in a design system.
• Practical UI/UX skills including content layout, information hierarchy, and familiarity with HTML/CSS fundamentals for accessible rendering.
• Familiarity with web accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience writing for government, regulated, or healthcare environments.
• Experience with established design systems like USWDS or state/agency design systems.
• Plain-language certification (e.g., PLAIN) or equivalent.
• Content-authoring experience in Drupal or comparable enterprise CMS (authoring only).
• UX research literacy including card sorting, tree testing, usability testing, and familiarity with tools such as Figma/FigJam.
• Experience producing accessible content at scale.

Special Considerations:

• Work requires adherence to accessibility standards and UX best practices.
• Collaboration in an Agile sprint environment with regular deadlines.
• Content authoring within design-system templates without coding development.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule aligned with Agile sprint cadence; typically standard business hours.
