Under general supervision of the Education Administrator of the Dispute Resolution Investigations Unit 3, the Education Programs Consultant (EPC) independently investigates and processes complaints and due process decisions involving alleged violations of federal and state special education laws. The EPC reviews allegations; analyzes evidence; coordinates with complainants, local educational agencies (LEAs), nonpublic schools, and internal staff; and prepares detailed investigation reports with findings, conclusions, and corrective actions within required timelines. Responsibilities include providing statewide technical assistance; conducting onsite visits when needed; researching current special education laws, trends, and legal decisions; and ensuring LEA compliance with corrective actions. The EPC also reviews and edits colleagues’ work, prepares written correspondence, delivers technical presentations, participates in meetings, keeps supervisors informed, and supports the mission of the Office of Dispute Resolution and Special Education Division.

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and physically reporting to the office.
